OUR UNDERSTANDING OF SUSTAINABILITY

Sustainability pillars - Develey

As a family-owned and operated company, we don’t think in terms of quarters, but rather in terms of generations. For us, sustainability means managing a company that is capable of being passed on. To do this, we are gradually implementing our integrated sustainability concept. This includes introducing and implementing measures along the value creation chain as well as along our “sustainability pillars” of employees, environment and regionality. In our system, we have defined company-wide and location-individual measures and goals for every location and every area. The overall strategy falls under the motto: “Our goal is zero”. This means that our goal is to reduce climate-damaging emissions as much as possible. We want to produce climate-neutral at all locations worldwide by 2025.

EMPLOYEES

Sustainability in companies only works if everyone is on board. That is why all of our employees are sustainability ambassadors whom we make aware of the topic through regular events.

SUSTAINABLY SATISFIED EMPLOYEES

Employee satisfaction is extremely important for our commitment to sustainability. That is why we provide support for personal and professional development in the company, have a company health management department and take care of the family/work balance. Because we care about the people who work with us and we want them to stay with us for many years to come.

WE PROMOTE EMPLOYEE PROJECTS

We gladly promote good ideas. Such as lift-free Fridays. It’s a campaign that we thank our trainees for. Or the employee project Rooftop Gardening, where vegetables are grown on the administration building’s rooftop in Unterhaching in the summer.

ENVIRONMENT

As a processor of high quality agricultural products, we care dearly about protecting the environment and handling resources responsibly.

AVOID, REDUCE AND RECYCLE

Based on an overall strategy for all locations, we consistently hold to our maxim “Avoid, reduce, recycle”. In doing so, we pursue a comprehensive approach and take environmental aspects into consideration, from procurement to production, packaging to transport and the end customer as well as the disposal of the packaging by customers. To meet this complex responsibility and also be well positioned for the future, we began to implement the comprehensive environmental management system DIN ISO 14001 in 2003. The energy management system DIN ISO 50001 began to be introduced in 2013.

GREEN TECHNOLOGIES

We set ourselves the goal of climate neutrality and want to reduce our CO2 emissions to net zero. To do this, we are reducing emissions by using renewable energy, such as photovoltaics, among other things. We are compensating for the unavoidable residual emissions by planting trees.

REGIONALITY

Mustard needs a home. We specifically promote German cultivation, produce regionally and commit locally.

REGIONAL production

We specifically promote the regional cultivation and production of our products.  Short transport distances of raw materials to the plants guarantee maximum freshness and are also good for the environment. That is why we are 100% behind the regional contract cultivation for our products. For example, the spicy pickles from the brand Specht go from the largest contiguous cucumber cultivation area in Europe in Lower Bavaria directly into production. The contract farmers from the region have been among our suppliers for decades. We also source the mustard seed for the Bautz’ner brand from the region around the plant. In Austria and France, we also farm our own mustard seed.

OUR COMMITMENT TO THE REGION

We want to make a meaningful contribution to society - beyond business activities.  That is why we promote children and youth sports at our locations, such as the volleyball department of TSV Unterhaching. We also cooperate with the children and youth initiative “Plant-for-the-Planet” and have already planted over 100,000 trees together.

RUN4TREES – RUN FOR YOUR ENVIRONMENT

A truly near-and-dear project is the annual charity run “Run4Trees” in Unterhaching, which we launched in 2009. We are delighted to have more participants every year who are creating awareness for nature by exercising outdoors. The proceeds from the event go in equal parts to the children and youth initiative “Plant-for-the-Planet” as well as to the TSV Unterhaching.
